A Little Bit About Us
The mission of Groundwork Denver is to bring about the sustained improvement of the physical environment and promote health and well-being through community-based partnerships and action.
Our goals include:
To build bridges between residents, businesses and government to accomplish positive environmental change.
To support the growth and development of environmental and community leaders from the neighborhoods where we work through youth employment, internships and community-based jobs.
To promote the inclusion of the diversity of people in our communities in decision-making and in action.
To ensure equal access to a clean and healthy environment for everyone, regardless of where they live, their economic status or their race or ethnicity.
Groundwork Denver was incorporated as a 501(c)3 in 2002 as an independent non-profit in the Groundwork USA network. Groundwork Denver was created in response to a feasibility study that was conducted by a steering committee made up of residents, non-profit leaders, and City agencies. The study found that Groundwork Denver could fill a critical niche to engage residents in the planning process and work with residents to implement tangible neighborhood-based projects that improve the urban environment. Our expertise, program areas, and volunteer mobilization have expanded from the original feasibility study to meet the requests of the community in a wide range of urban environmental and community development issues.

Green Team Summer/school Jobs
meaningful job opportunities and job training
The Green Team program provides meaningful job opportunities and job training for youth from Denver’s low-income neighborhoods. Groundwork Denver will operate school-year Green Teams, employing 20 youth age 13 to 24. The youth will work in a team of 7-10 for 140-hours during the summer. Their work is focused on engaging youth in the various opportunities available through the Inspire initiative, helping to maintain the “Places” projects (e.g. native landscape) serving as an ongoing youth advisory council to the Sheridan Inspire Initiative, and other environmental and community projects.

Sheridan Community Camp
5 week program
This 5 week program offers daily programming out of the Sheridan Recreation center and surrounding areas. Children ages 5-12 engage in day camp activities Monday through Friday at low- or no cost to the families in the Sheridan Community. The children have the opportunity to socialize, learn about their environment, spend time outdoors, play and engage in artistic activities. The Sheridan Community Camp collaborates with other partners in the Sheridan Inspire coalition to offer the children bike rides, trips to the local library, sports, nature programs, and other activities.

Volunteering in Nature
four volunteer/educational events
We will organize four volunteer/educational events for youth and their families to participate in habitat restoration, environmental education, or natural resource conservation. The events will include educational and/or recreational opportunities, such as a wildlife tour or a bike ride. Youth employees in the various pathways programs will help lead volunteer crews and recruit friends and family to participate. Volunteers will also learn about other Sheridan Inspire programs and pathway opportunities while at the volunteer activities.
What We
Love About
This Partner
Groundwork Denver’s Blue Team is well known around the community. What we love about Groundwork Denver is that they are “doers” not “talkers”. Over the years they have helped in the community summer camps, planted trees, cleaned the rivers and so much more!

Connect with Groundwork Denver
We are “doers”, not “talkers”. We plant trees, we improve parks, we clean up rivers, we grow food, we insulate houses, and we coordinate thousands of volunteers to help.
